Champaign Urbana Community

CU started by interviewing and interacting with various members of the surrounding community and discovered a gap in outreach from UIUC to high schools in the Champaign-Urbana area.. Now, the team is focusing on enhancing the university's outreach to local high schools.

Problem
Through their research, the CU Community Team discovered that there is currently a significant gap in outreach efforts between the university and local high schools, which limits opportunities for engagement between the two communities. This disconnect prevents local students from accessing valuable resources and mentorship that the university and university students can provide.
Solution
To address the lack of outreach, the team has begun working to increase engagement by hosting events directly at local schools. These initiatives aim to create more accessible opportunities for students to interact with university resources, fostering stronger relationships with the community. The team is currently shifting its focus towards public schools, recognizing the need for support and opportunities within these institutions. The team aims to organize mentorship programs, college application workshops, and educational events, hoping to provide local students with the guidance and resources needed to empower them to take decisions about their future. Ultimately, the goal is to develop a sustainable solution that narrows the gap between the university and local schools.
